Applications for the 2021 British Skin Foundation Atopic Dermatitis Research Awards are now closed.


All applications submitted after Sunday 21st November at 23:59 (GMT) were not considered. Eligible applications are forwarded to the Grant Advisory Committee by the end of the year, with applicants then being notified with the outcome of their application, via email in early 2022.

About the Award


This 2021 British Skin Foundation Atopic Dermatitis Research Award opportunity has been made possible by a partnership with Pfizer, who will be jointly funding the successful project.

  • A BSF Atopic Dermatitis Research Award is available to anybody wishing to carry out U.K or R.O.I based research investigating ways of improving the management of moderate to severe Atopic Dermatitis
  • No more than one application can be submitted by a Principal Investigator per application round.
  • Applications will not be accepted from a PI who currently holds a Large Grant as a PI
  • Applicants are expected to demonstrate the value of the project to dermatology, specifically Atopic Dermatitis
  • The maximum amount of funds available is £81,000 (£40,500 per year) No ‘top-ups’ or extensions are available for any reason
  • The maximum duration of the BSF Research Award is 2 years (although this may be extended by negotiation where there are issues around flexible working or career breaks/maternity leave)
  • The BSF Research Award must be activated within 12 months of the award letter
  • Successful applicants will provide the BSF office with a researcher ‘ORCHID ID’ upon activation of the grant
  • The BSF Research Award funding is claimed by authorised finance departments submitting invoices at quarterly intervals
  • A scientific and a lay report are to be submitted both mid-term and upon completion. Closing invoices will only be paid upon receipt of final reports
  • The British Skin Foundation’s support is to be mentioned in any relevant papers or presentations and copies to be forwarded to the BSF office
